Pistol Shooting Practice

When you are just aching to shoot your pistol for practice or fun you will be pleased to know just how much variety is out there. From paper targets to silhouette practice, you will find that there is something out there for you.

Shooting Ranges

Shooting ranges vary almost as much as the individual sportsman who goes there. There are shooting parks with rolling hills and beautiful scenery, shooting bunkers that look like last century's war bunkers or even the plain old range with a bullseye hanging awaiting your bullet.

Shooting Targets

Target shooting has been around for years and has become more and more life-like all the time. They have been used mainly for practice but also for the sport of it and to release some built-up anxiety. With all the different types of target shooting, there is something for everyone.

Gun Targets

The type of gun target you ultimately purchase is going to be largely dependant upon the type of gun you own and what you want to use it for. For instance, if you plan on using the gun for safety reasons, you probably don't want to practice shooting long-range with silhouettes.

Pistol Targets

Pistol targets is really a broad subject and, once again, it depends on what exactly you want to spend and what your pistol will be used for. Ranging in price from free to several hundred dollars, pistol targets can be a difficult purchase to choose.

Steel Targets

Steel targets seem to make more sense if you are the type of person who loves to shoot your gun but hates the clean-up afterwards. With glass and paper targets you are left with a huge mess, but with a steel target there's very rarely anything to pick up.

Silhouette Targets

Silhouette targets are steel targets in the shape of animals and range in size from mice to deer. Depending on the type of gun you are using and your skill level, you can place these targets pretty much anywhere and enjoy the sport of pistol shooting.

Paper Targets

Though they may be a mess to clean up after, paper targets are definitely much more convenient to the wallet. While steel targets can cost a pretty penny, you can simply go online and find free printable paper targets and all you have to sacrifice is the clean-up time.

Shooting Glasses

No matter what type of targets you are using, whether it be clay, live animals or another target, shooting glasses are a definite need for safety. Most people do not realize the power a handgun has and how much could go wrong, even if it's just something flying back and blinding you.

Skeet & Trap Shooting

Skeet shooting and trap shooting have long been recognized as the same thing, but they were once very different sports. Skeet shooting has always been the shooting of clay discs and, today, trap shooting is very much the same. However, trap shooting used to use live pigeons released from cages.

Competition Pistol Shooting

The art of competition pistol shooting has been around for many, many years and even used to be an Olympic sport. Livestock was a big part of competition shooting until too many players were cheating and bribing judges. Hence, target shooting.

Practical Shooting

For a bit of release try practical shooting, an attempt to measure the ability to shoot rapidly and successfully using different types of guns. The practical shooting pyramid is formed with three sides--speed, accuracy and power. Practical shooting has different matches to measure each of these three areas.
